Along the Ashton Canal to the Portland Basin (long tour!)

Next tour: No dates yet.
Meet: Malmaison Hotel, No. 3 Piccadilly, time tbc.

This is a big one, aimed at all you trekkers. We follow the Ashton Canal, from the city centre, past the steepest street in the world, the oldest skewed bridge in the country, Piccadilly Village, the Chips Building in Ancoats, the old rotting industrial heartland of East Manchester, the strangely-named Holt Town, the site of the Bradford Colliery (a vast football stadium has been built on top of it, which just happens to be home to the richest club in the world), the Velodrome, the stadia of Sport City all the way to the fascinating Portland Basin, where the waterways of the world (okay, some of them) meet and where some of the most dramatic Coronation Street stories were filmed.

* We will stop for a break at the Velodrome/National Cycling Centre.
* If we walk quickly enough we will arrive at Portland Basin in time for a cuppa and a wander around the museum.

This is a trek and a half, so bring some good boots.
